Be more approachable today!

Want to attract more customers? Improve your approachability and they’ll be drawn to you.

  1. Above all be your original self.  You can spot a phony a mile away. So can others. Being genuine helps you to shine.
  2.  Stop multitasking and be present with your customers.  PUT YOUR PHONE AWAY when you are with another human being. In business or your personal life talking, texting or even ‘just checking’ is a sign of disrespect and shows you would rather be doing something else. It’s plain RUDE!
  3. Give someone an unforgettable reply in 5 seconds or less that makes them think ‘Wow’ or ‘That’s so interesting’. Words are one of the most powerful yet underused tools at our disposal.  Think of the colorful language and witty interactions in classic movies. Those memorable dialogs are the things legends are made of. Vow to become memorable.
  4. Ditch the phrases ‘No problem’ ‘Next’ and ‘You’re welcome’ instead try ‘Right away’ ‘Step right up’ ‘Welcome’ ‘my pleasure’ or I’m happy to’.
  5. If you’re crossing your arms because you are cold, that is what people will think you are.  Put on a jacket. If you’re crossing your arms for another reason, you’re telling people to back off. Keep your stance open and carry yourself with good posture.
  6. Smile and make eye contact with people. Trust us, you’ll get used to it. It’s fun! But, don’t stare, that’s creepy.  Just a couple seconds and twinkle of the eye.
  7. Dress appropriately. It tells customers nonverbally that you know what you are doing. We’re not saying your wardrobe has to be boring. Showing your own unique style is a plus!  But being either overly formal, too casual or heaven forbid disheveled sends the message that you are out of tune with your environment.
  8. Make a customer and a coworker laugh every day.
  9. Remember that everyone deserves respect as a human being. Avoid making fun at someone else’s expense. Think about what you are saying, let it run through your mind before it leaves your lips and don’t say something that could hurt someone’s feelings, you are not on a reality show.
  10. Change ONE thing at a time. Trying to revamp your approachability all at once just sets you up for failure. Give it some time and follow your heart.

I am really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you modify it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog like this one nowadays..
